Astro is a moderation bot, so it does keep records about people. This page says exactly which ones, why, how long, and how to get them removed.

Who we are

Astro is a moderation bot for Discord, built and run by Phase & Cipher, a small development team. We operate the bot and the dashboard at astro.pcdev.info.

The short version

Astro is a moderation bot, so unlike most bots it does hold records about people: who was banned, why, and by whom. That is the entire point of a moderation log. This page sets out exactly what is kept, because a vague answer would be useless to you.

What Astro stores

DataWhy
Server ID and settingsYour configuration: log channels, rules, toggles, ticket categories
Moderation casesAction taken, the target's user ID and display name at the time, the moderator's user ID and display name, the reason, any duration, and when it happened
ReportsWhen someone reports a message: a copy of that message's text and any attachment addresses, plus the author and the reporter. The copy is kept deliberately so the record survives the message being deleted
TicketsWho opened it, the subject and category, who claimed and closed it, the close reason and the timestamps
Automod verdict cacheA one-way SHA-256 hash of already-judged text and the verdict. The text itself is not stored, and a hash cannot be turned back into the message
Dashboard sessionsSo you stay logged in to astro.pcdev.info

Where message content is involved

Astro does not log every message. There are exactly two places message content is handled:

  • Reports. When a member reports a message, a snapshot of that message and its attachment addresses is saved so your staff can act on it after the original is gone.
  • Ticket transcripts. When a ticket is closed, a transcript is written and posted to the log channel you configured. It lives in your server, under your control, and you can delete it.

Outside of those, Astro looks at messages as they arrive to apply your automod rules and then forgets them.

Automated moderation

If you turn on AI-assisted moderation, borderline messages are sent to a third-party AI provider which returns a rating so the bot can decide whether to act. Only the text of the message is sent, truncated, with no user ID, no username and no server name attached. The provider receives no way to tie the text back to a person or a server.

The verdict is cached against a hash of the text so the same content is not sent twice. This feature is off unless a server owner switches it on.

What we never do

  • We do not store a copy of every message.
  • We do not read direct messages. Astro cannot see them.
  • We do not store your email, your IP address or your payment details, because we never receive them.
  • We do not sell, rent or share anything with advertisers. There are no ads and no trackers.
  • We do not use your server's moderation data to train anything.

Where it is kept

Records are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database in Cloudflare's infrastructure. Each server's data is separated by server ID, so one server's staff can never see another's. Access is limited to the people who run Phase & Cipher, and we look only when we are fixing something or answering you.

How long it is kept

  • Moderation cases and tickets are kept for as long as Astro is in your server, because a moderation history you cannot look back through is not a moderation history.
  • Reports are kept until your staff resolve them, and then kept with the case they produced.
  • The automod verdict cache is short-lived and cleared on a rolling basis.
  • Dashboard sessions expire on their own.
  • If Astro is removed from a server, that server's data is deleted on request, and cleared in routine maintenance regardless.

Getting data removed

A server owner can ask us to delete everything for their server, and we will do it. An individual can ask what is held about them and ask for it to be removed.

One honest caveat: a moderation record exists for the benefit of the server that took the action. If you are asking us to erase a ban reason from a server you were banned from, we will pass that request to the server's owners rather than overrule them, unless the law requires otherwise.

Changes to this policy

If Astro starts storing something it does not store today, this page changes before the feature ships. The date at the top is the honest one.
